Get Yourself Published

Over terms two and three we’ll publish 19 issues of the College Herald with 20 student pieces in each issue. In all, around 380 students will feature, so you have an excellent chance of getting published, getting your message out there and winning one of the prizes.

We’re looking for all kinds of work, written and visual, from students of all ages.

  1. Written work can be in the form of modified essays or essay excerpts, feature writing, creative pieces, articles, reviews, poems, letters, interviews or investigative journalism.
  2. Graphic and visual work includes artwork, photography, cartoons and illustrations.

So You Want to Contribute

  1. Prepare. Read the Herald for ideas, use the guidelines on this website.
  2. Select a topic from the weekly or general themes, or think about something that’s important to you.
  3. Decide what sort of work you want to submit. You could write a feature, interview someone, take a photo, create a cartoon...it’s up to you.
  4. Create your entry. Or if you are submitting work you completed previously and have modified for the College Herald, go to the next step.
  5. Mark it clearly with your name, age, and your year– and the name, age, year and school of any other contributors to the work.
  6. Get your teacher to check and sign your work (download an entry form here) and then send your work to the Herald, FREEPOST PO Box 706, Auckland or fax (09) 373 6529 if written.

Get Going

Exactly how you answer a theme is entirely up to you, but we’ve put together a short guide outlining the best ways to write an article or create a visual submission that will really catch our attention.
